The ACS Green Chemistry Institute Pharmaceutical Roundtable (ACS GCIPR) is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop titled “Driving Sustainability in Pharma and Allied Industries,” taking place on October 16, 2025, at Takeda in Cambridge, MA.

This full-day event will bring together leading scientists from academia and industry to explore the latest advancements in sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The agenda features keynote presentations, technical talks, and interactive sessions on green chemistry tools, metrics, and innovations in biocatalysis, peptide synthesis, and discovery chemistry. Speakers include experts from MIT, Pfizer, Sanofi, Novartis, Biohaven, Boehringer Ingelheim, and more.

Students will benefit from:

  • Networking with professionals and peers across the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors

  • Gaining practical insights into green chemistry applications

  • Presenting their own research during the poster session and receiving expert feedback

  • Engaging in meaningful discussions on sustainability and innovation

Please note that registration is required and there is a small fee to attend. Lunch, coffee breaks, and a networking & poster reception are included. The deadline to submit a poster abstract is September 19, and general registration closes October 1.

More details and registration can be found here:

The American Chemical Society Local Sections of Connecticut cordially invite you to our joint speaker event!

The Evolution of Aromatic Chemistry in the Interstellar Medium

ree

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), a class of large hydrocarbon molecules, are thought to sequester a large fraction (10-25%) of all carbon in the Universe.  While strong circumstantial evidence for their presence in space has existed since the 1980s, it is only in the last few years that the first individual PAH species have been definitively detected. In this talk, I'll describe the synthetic and spectroscopic laboratory work, computational approaches, and observational efforts which have led to these discoveries, discuss our current understanding of the formation and molecular evolution of PAHs in space, and describe the growing body of evidence that these species, in no small part, influence the inventory of raw organic material delivered to early planets.  I'll conclude by taking a critical look at open questions related to PAH chemistry in space and the prospects for the field going forward.

This could also be a great opportunity for you to network with other academic and industry chemistry professionals in Connecticut
